A truly Scottish wedding

Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life. We like to pride ourselves on really making the difference on the day with our dedicated team to help you plan every last detail.

Whether you would like a small intimate gathering or a more lavish celebration, we can help you plan your own unique, tailor-made winter celebration (November through March). For the Wedding Banquet, we’ll help you create the perfect menu prepared by our Head Chef with the choice of either a buffet or a more formal dinner.

Use our expertise in helping you plan your Champagne and wines, beautiful fresh flowers, hand made chocolates or small thoughtful gifts for your guests in our 12 individually styled bedrooms. Costs might determine your options, but we can also help you plan for other smaller functions such as a canapé drinks reception, a brunch, an afternoon tea, or full buffet dinner the night before. Plus we’ll arrange the finishing touches – a lively ceilidh and fireworks.

We can help you and your guests relax both before and after the big day, by offering a luxurious range of aromatherapy and massage treatments or just some welcome time out relaxing in our Finnish sauna.

We can help you decide whether you would like separate locations for the ceremony and reception and we can offer you full exclusivity of the hotel and restaurant as well as arranging for your marriage to be consecrated on our own private premises. We can also help you set a realistic budget to your plans with ideas and suggestions to help ensure you make the most of our wonderful venue.

The Pierhouse is one of the most idyllic and scenic locations in the Highlands of Scotland, and an ideal venue for an intimate wedding celebration for you and your guests. Combined with our location and a professional team of dedicated staff your wedding will be a dream come true. Whatever type of wedding you are looking for we will ensure that you and all your guests will be well looked after.

Exclusive use of the hotel

Organising an exclusive party allows you to make use of the whole hotel for your wedding and guests for the length of your stay. The rooms at your disposal from November through March are 12 individually styled bedrooms, the Ferry Bar and terrace, the Lismore Room, the Snug Residents’ Lounge, the Restaurant and the cosy Restaurant Servery which offers additional seating in front of a log burning stove. Read more about Exclusive use here>.

We can accommodate a maximum of 26 guests (24 adults and 2 children) in the following room configurations: 8 x Double Rooms, 2 x Double or Twin Bedrooms and 2 x Double & Single rooms

We can also provide cots or rollaway beds for additional young children. Please take a look at our different styles of bedrooms here>.

If you require further accommodation, we are very happy to arrange your overnight provision using our excellent relationships with our local Bed and Breakfast businesses and neighbouring hotels in Port Appin and the surrounding area.

Your wedding ceremony

We have a full wedding licence enabling you to enjoy your wedding in the tranquillity and breathtaking scenery of The Pierhouse on the shores of Loch Linnhe. We will take care of organising a minister or registrar for the ceremony. Alternatively, there are some truly beautiful local churches in Duror, Appin or even the stunning island of Lismore, just 5 minutes passenger ferry ride across the water.

Marriage ceremonies conducted in the hotel can take place either in the Restaurant or Lismore Room and we are able to provide witnesses if required. The marriage may take the form of a religious ceremony, which must be conducted by an Approved Celebrant (e.g. this may be a Church of Scotland Minister) whom you should also make contact with as soon as possible and whose details the District Registrar will require before the marriage takes place; or a civil ceremony – a non-religious ceremony conducted by a Registrar.

By law both parties to a proposed civil or religious marriage are required to submit Marriage Notice Forms to the Registrar of the District in which the marriage is to take place. The District Registrar for Port Appin is in Oban. It is essential before you finalise your wedding arrangements that you make contact with Oban’s District Registrar to obtain the necessary advice regarding the Legal Preliminaries to Marriage in Scotland and to arrange for the appropriate documentation to be sent to you. Your wedding banquet

Delight your guests with a delicious wedding banquet created using the finest, freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Menus are tailored to your own taste and budget - simply share your ideas with us or let us put together some sample menus for you to consider.

Wines and Whiskies

We will be delighted to take you through our wine list and help you to choose wines to complement your chosen menu. It is hotel policy that all wines served are purchased from the hotel. If you do wish to bring your own special wines, the corkage is £20.00 per bottle of wine, and £30 per bottle of champagne. We can discuss your wine and champagne choices to complement your meal once you have chosen the food.

With our extensive range of over 100 malt whiskies and craft gins to choose from, your party will be sure to say they have had a true taste of Scotland.

Every detail: the finishing touches

You have thought through your marriage ceremony, food and drink and accommodation. Now you can complete the arrangements for your wedding celebrations – the finishing touches to your day. The Pierhouse is happy to help with these special arrangements. Here are some ideas of what we can provide – or share your ideas with us.

A Piper - A Scottish piper can be arranged to play the pipes to help you to celebrate your marriage in style and/or welcome your guests.

Music and Entertainment - There’s nothing quite like the vibrant atmosphere of a Highland ceilidh! We are very experienced at organising traditional Scottish ceilidh dances in the hotel so simply ask us if you wish us to help organise the music for the evening. Music can range from traditional Scottish ceilidh with fiddles, accordions, singing and guitars to live pipers, classical music or more popular modern music. (Ceilidh prices from £400.) The ceilidh can be timed to start towards the end of the Banquet and can last for as long or as short as you wish.

Fireworks - a firework display Fireworks can create the perfect grand finale to the day. We can organise a small or large display for you off the pier to entertain your guests. (Prices from £250.) The display must take place no later than 10.30 pm and please note that in the summer it is still light at this time so the display will not be so effective.

Flowers - Flowers on the restaurant tables will be provided for the Friday night, in-keeping with the hotel. Wedding table decorations or any type of bouquet or flower arrangement can be provided at cost.

Table Plan - a table plan will be provided to suit your wishes. We can organise either square tables or long tables depending on your desired configuration. We are happy to print up menus, place cards and table plan in our house-style for you at no extra cost. If you would prefer to organise this yourselves, please let us know.

Wedding Cake and Stand - We can provide a cake stand and knife at no extra cost. If you would like us to organise a cake, please contact us for further details, we require at least 12 weeks notice for a formal wedding cake. (Prices start from £150)

Photographer - We are able to recommend a photographer to capture your special day. For prices and information please contact us with ideas on the style of photography you would like and your budget.

Picnic Hampers - For a low-key alternative, order one of our packed hampers filled with smoked salmon sandwiches, champagne, strawberries and chocolates, then take off after the ceremony, find a quiet romantic spot and sit and enjoy the landscape around The Pierhouse.

Massage Treatments - If you are arriving a few days early with close friends and family, we can help you relax and unwind in perfect luxury in advance of the big day. We offer a full range of highly skilled professional massage and treatments in the comfort of your own room. So if you are feeling a little tense in the run up to the wedding day, or need some much needed relaxation afterwards, we are more than happy to arrange a treatment from our extensive list on offer.

Outdoor activities for you and your guests - We can arrange all sorts of fun activities for your Scottish wedding. From fast boat trips around the Isle of Lismore or more energetic sea kayaking on the loch, to mountain biking or sedate guided walks around the neighbouring countryside, our team will ensure everyone has a great time. For full details, please visit our Organised Activities page>.
