So good !
We arrived and were met by very friendly staff and shown to a very pleasant bed room with a good en-suite shower room. The views from the hotel are really breathtaking! I can't imagine anything more impressive. Then it came to Dinner, perfect in every way, the Chef is amazing, so much attention to detail so sorry we had booked for just one night. I love this hotel and restaurant and can't wait to get a chance to return. MickM, April 18
Very nice place to stay
At the end of the road right by Port Appin pier, this is not a 5* place and nor does it pretend to be. Friendly staff throughout, small bedrooms but very comfortable, and the restaurant serves some very good food and the service is excellent. Great views of Lismore Island and the ferry crossing the sound to get there! SteppieC, April 18
Had a great weekend at The Pierhouse Hotel in Port Appin. Beautiful hotel on a lovely spot, gorgeous views. Excellent food, especially if you like seafood. The staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely cosy snug area with roaring fire. Would also recommend a boat trip with Appin Boat Tours with Alistair. Will definitely be back. MaureenC, April 18
The position of the hotel is magical. And to watch the ferry men and their dog was brilliant. The food is outstanding especially the oyster kilpatrick. We enjoyed it so much we will be returning. JudyM, March 18
A wonderful relaxing weekend
Picture postcard views, warm friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious, it was difficult to decide what to order from such a tempting menu, our meals were excellent on both nights. AnneLQ, March 18
Superb restaurant in sensational location
The restaurant commands a lovely view over the narrows, to Lismore. Great just to sit back and relax as the wee local ferry potters over the the nearby island. This friendly and hospitable restaurant serves great food. Renowned for fresh seafood, but we've enjoyed the steaks and other fayre, too. Arrive early, and enjoy pre-diiner drinks beside the log fire in the cosy lounge. Laurence, Jan 18
Found the pier house after coming from Oban heading to Glencoe and wondering ‘what’s down that road Port Appin’???? What a wonderful surprise. Hotel looks lovely, guests we talked said it was fabulous as was the food. We had tea/coffee cakes and it was lovely. The waitress was wonderful, knew all about the area and answered all the questions we asked. We are already planning a break there. IanTT, Jan 18
Customer Service Par Excellence!
From the greeting upon entering the hotel to check-in to the chat at check-out, the customer service at The Pierhouse is exceptional and most welcoming. And, to top it all off, the service and quality of the food at the restaurant are absolutely outstanding. If you're looking for a venue to celebrate a special occasion or anniversary, this is the place to be. WilliamT, Nov 17
The Wonderful Pierhouse
Stunning weather for our short stay at the Pierhouse Hotel, the most exceptional staff, food and level of care and attention to detail. We can't recommend this Scottish treasure highly enough. ClaireM, Oct17
Everything we will expected and more!
This is a beautiful small hotel in a wonderful part of Scotland. The view from our bedroom was nothing short of spectacular, across loch Linnhe to the Island of Lismore. Caroline who welcomed us and checked us out was kind, helpful and charm personified. We are planning our next visit. Donasdhu, Sept 17
Beautiful little hotel
We were on a motorcycle tour of Scotland, hadn't booked anywhere to stay and thought we'd see what fate threw in our path. The Pierhouse was at the end of a little road that we thought led to the Loch, and it did. It also led us to what is perhaps the most beautiful little hotel. We were lucky, they had a room cancellation that night so we downed tools, changed out of our leathers and had some of the best seafood ever as we watched the sun set over the Loch. HRHII, Aug 17
What a night!
The food here is phenomenal. The scenery is quite breathtaking. The piece de resistance however has to be the whisky drinking with the big boss man. Mr Horne was extremely warm and welcoming and ensured that we had an evening we won't forget for a while. Already booked my next trip north! RobbieS, July 17
Just a 24 hour stay in the middle of December. What an incredibly pleasant surprise. Impeccable customer service from the moment I phoned to book to the check out. Cannot recommend enough for this time of year especially for the drinks by the log burner. Can't wait to see what it's like in the summer. SamL, Dec 16
Stayed here for 2 nights for first leg of our honeymoon. The rooms are really nice and the location is stunning. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We spent hours in the snug playing board games and relaxing with a drink . Great selection of scotch too. We will be back ! Chrisd1210, Nov 16
Third Time Stay
This is still a wonderful location and must represent one of the best places to stay on the west coast. The rooms are cozy, the beds comfortable and everything works. The staff continue to be helpful and welcoming. The seafood continues to be perfect. Just go there and enjoy! Genoa25, Oct 16
A special place
The Pier House hotel is one of those warming welcoming spots that always draws you back. The ambience and friendly staff were to the usual high standards and we had a lovely meal with fresh lobster. We had worked up our appetite doing the loop walk around the peninsula, and the thought of our meal to come at the hotel was a great incentive. There is nothing better than this spot in the early evening with the sun setting behind the islands..... we'll be back soon! EuanM, Oct 16
Very comfortable, stunning location
Stayed here with the family for the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Amazing food (including breakfast), cosy woodburner and huge range of whiskies in the bar, fun to play board games with the kids. The rooms are not huge or amazingly special (in a relatively modern wing) but very comfortable and the sea-facing ones have stunning views. We particularly enjoyed watching the sweet little Lismore ferry coming and going, and then hiring bikes and going across to Lismore which is a brilliant place for a family bike ride (c. 12 mile round trip, including a lovely cafe). Would definitely come back. Mozartman, Oct 16
From the second we arrived we were met with a warm, friendly welcome. The rooms were of a very good standard - all with beautiful views front facing and the cliff facing ones just as lovely as there are a series of bird feeders that have been thoughtfully set up so that you can sit / lie and watch them continually feed. The walks up behind are great too and on our morning walk we were lucky enough to see the otters. I couldn't recommend a visit here enough - I think of all the places I have been it has to be set in some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Fridaynite1, Oct 16
Excellent! Fabulour! Superb!
The location is perfect, the rooms are superb, the beds and bedding are super-comfortable, the welcome is warm and friendly and the food is fabulous. If I owned a hotel, this is how I would want it to be. What more can I say? Exmoorgirl, Oct 16
Thanks all for another fantastic stay at The Pierhouse. Usual friendly welcome, relaxed atmosphere and fantastic seafood. Faultless from start to finish, the two hour drive is now an absolute pleasure knowing how well looked after we'll be when we arrive but the leaving is an even bigger wrench. Already looking forward to our next visit. genuinepig, Sept 16
Like being wrapped in a comfort blanket for 3 days!
A lovely friendly welcome, an enticing small bar, a seafood restaurant which serves "paradise on a plate" for breakfast and dinner whilst you sit transfixed by incredible views through the huge windows, what's not to like?! All your worries just melt away here and all the staff were fantastic especially Caroline. Three days was not enough - we'll have to come back!! Diane M, July 16
Idyll in Scotland
Fantastic place to get away from it all. Stunning views, amazingly good and locally sourced seafood. Very welcoming and comfortable hotel. Appin is a quiet and hidden gem. Seabirds diving, fishing boats and ferries to watch. Jane H, July 16
Friendly, helpful, relaxing place
Just returned from a 5 day stay. The food was lovely. The location is great. We went there to kayak from the shore - the private car park on the edge of the loch made this possible. We plan to return with elderly parents as the views from the front-facing bedrooms and restaurants are amazing. Being at the end of the road where the Lismore ferry is based, there's always activity so great for watching the world go by. Juliet R, June 16
Best of both worlds
So, the Pierhouse really is the best of both worlds: A rugged and remote west coast location but a bustling cosmopolitan feel within; and a friendly, casual bar serving rustic food and late night pints, cheek by jowl with upmarket restaurant sporting crisp linen, great views and quality produce with taste & provenance. Graeme C, June 16
Beautiful retreat with gourmet experience
As I travel a lot for my job and stay in many hotels overseas and in the UK, I was delighted to be surprised at just how good this little gem of a place is. It has all the atmosphere and rustic charm of a traditional Scottish Lochside Inn, but with highly upgraded luxury accommodation and food that was simply stunning. Debworthy, June 16
This is an absolutely charming hotel that combines a loch view, a welcoming bar which comes with outside seating, an awarded seafood restaurant, delghtful rooms, personable service and nearby walks. It ticks all the right boxes. Its compactness is a huge blessing. After checking in at 1 pm, we had time for tea (yummy scones), a trail walk, a short boat ride to Lismore, the island across, where we saw puffins and straight back for a commendable seafood dinner. lilacfields, June 16
Serene & Stunning
This friendly hotel surpassed my expectations in terms of hospitality & tranquility. The freshly caught seafood dinner was delicious with a romantic view of the sunset over the Isle of Lismore. Apart from the beautiful views, the optional massage added to the overall feeling of well-being and relaxation. Tamsin McVean is a highly knowledgeable and professional masseuse, capable of putting one completely at ease after a long trip. PuffinPress, May 16
Friendly bar staff and happy, professional management. Very fair prices for beer and the staff were kind enough to provide water for my two Black Labradors. Sadly I didn't eat there but the food looked great. I enjoyed sunning myself on the terrace while having a couple of beers. Highly recommended. DougieRanger, May 16
Lovely bar food
Excellent selection in the bar where nothing seems to be any trouble to the staff. Fabulous views watching the little ferry come in and out. The bar has such a relaxed ambiance that the holiday starts right away. Food is always of a very high standard and an absolute must for fish fanatics. Thank you once again. Bannlagan, May 16
Idylic location, super stay
This hotel situated right on the water’s edge, should be a "must visit" for anyone who enjoys the magnificent West Coast of Scotland. Gordon 1, May 16
A warm welcome, exquisite cuisine and the most outstanding surroundings...
The hotel's simplicity is one of its secret ingredients, not relying on grandeur but proposing your time is spent outside or in the lounge and restaurant where panoramic views over to the Isle of Lismore spirit you away. Wood burners and comfortable seating tempt you to sink back and read a book whilst the simply outstanding coastline beckons you on many of the fabulous walks that venture you past seals, sea birds (we spotted a white tailed eagle, sea otter and a cheeky seal), rock pools and many other delights.
You cannot underestimate the The Pierhouse Hotel's capacity to deliver a wildly unique experience and whilst I am unpractised at writing reviews or comments on these forums, this place deserves all the praise it gets. CraigP, April 16
1st class as always
This is our 14th time visiting Port Appin and the Pierhouse. Service is first class from Harry at the bar and the team in the restaurant (Romi - always smiling) Our two meals were 1st class, lobster to die for and mussels just keep getting better and better. The Pierhouse is a little gem which we can rate high enough. Everyone needs to visit as you don't know what your missing. RossZoe 123, April 16
Incredible weekend break
I have stayed at a lot of hotels on the West Coast and eaten at many of the restaurants it has to offer but have never received quite the same quality of service or food/drink for that matter as I did at the Pierhouse. The perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, we were put completely at ease by the lovely owners and their ever smiley and helpful staff. The food could not have been more fresh (highly recommend the seafood platter!) and the barman's knowledge of the local ales and whiskey was fantastic.
To gaze over some of the most spectacular scenery the country has to offer combined with all of the above is an experience guarenteed to put a smile on anyone's face. Bring on the next visit! James M, March 16
Lovely people offering more than lovely food
I can't decide what was better, the food or the scenery. Luckily I didn't have to choose as I enjoyed a homemade burger and a pint of best whilst watching the sun bouncing off the water, slowly disappearing behind the mountains. Then for dinner I devoured the best fish platter I have ever had, washed down with the option of every whiskey under the sun.
There was an amazing mix of interesting travellers and homely locals - the owners really took care of us and genuinely wanted to talk to us. Ruaridh Y, March 16
Seafood, service and setting.....stunning
The Resident's Lounge has a wonderful ambiance where you can sit at the wood burner, enjoy a pot of coffee or wine and read a book. Staff were very professional and efficient which is refreshing. Would definitely recommend this hidden piece of heaven. RaeMcGhee, Feb 16
Fantastic location, amazing food, friendly staff. Second visit here and it won't be the last. Cosy open fires, seafood is second to none, the views are stunning. Rooms are small but very comfortable. If you want a truly relaxing break then this is the place to come. Julieannsutton, Feb 16
WOW is the only way I can describe this hotel and seafood restaurant. What lovely pleasant and welcoming staff and hosts, Harry made us feel extremely welcomed. The rooms are divine with the biggest marsh mellow bed ever. The views simply stunning. The food - well I can see why they have rosettes - it was fantastic, delicious and worth every penny. I had a massage with Tamsin and that was really good. I can and will recommend this 100% to all. Karen J, Jan 16
Absolutely fabulous a jewel in the Argyll crown
Upon arrival at the hotel my expectations were exceeded by firstly the location overlooking the island of Lismore and then the fantastic Scottish welcome by the staff on booking in. The location, warmth of welcome and the food all add up to a place I hope to return to on many occasions to unwind and relax in the tranquility there. Andrewbhm, Jan 16
Wonderful, friendly and totally relaxing inn
This place is precious. The silence hits you from your room. The water lapping on the shore and the mountains all around. Simply wonderful!! Jan D, Oct 15
What a beautiful place. The staff, the room, the food, the wine, the whole atmosphere were all first rate. Would we return? In a heartbeat. This is simply food for the soul - book it now! rbuck,Sept 15
Escape to tranquility
We stayed here for 3 days in a beautiful room overlooking the loch. We felt as if we had stepped into another world - a peaceful haven from the stress and hassle of normal life. Go to the Pierhouse for the escape, the food, the views and the atmosphere - you will not be disappointed. RydalDurham
A wee gem!
Lovely fresh, clean rooms. Great staff and the most delicious food. Beautiful views. Our stay here was a real treat. LCAyrshire
Many hotels and restaurants just do not live up to their hype.
What a pleasant surprise to find that on this occasion the real thing outshone the hype. The Pierhouse has a picturesque and secluded setting down a single track road opposite the small passenger ferry to Lismore. It has a super restaurant, an intimate, relaxed and informal feeling. From the minute we arrived we felt welcome and valued - easy to say, harder to do. But... do not be fooled despite the genuine welcome from ALL the staff this operation runs efficiently from breakfast to late at night. The restaurant served lovely seafood - the mussels were absolutely outstanding (though there are good options for the non seafoodies). I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will do so incessantly. AndrewC
This was our first visit to this lovely hotel and it really is a gem. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly owners and staff and we felt very welcome and spoilt during our stay of 2 nights. It is definitely off the beaten track but this adds to the lovely feeling of escaping from the real world - we had a thoroughly relaxing break here - thank you! hoobledipper
You have to visit
Simply put, if you're on the west coast you must stay here. The location and views are breath taking. The sunset we saw was fantastic. This is a seafood restaurant, so my wife wasn't that pleased but I loved the food. Good breakfast to set you up for the day after a good nights sleep. Would have liked to take the ferry to Lismore but will next time, just got to get my wife to like seafood! PeterB
Let's start with the important bit: the food. Langoustine to die for, fabulous smoked salmon. Not cheap, but delicious. The setting is lovely, the rooms tasteful, powerful showers and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was great, whether you had the full Scottish or the locally smoked kippers. As long as you accept it doesn't come cheap, it is fantastic. MrsB028
Not enough adjectives for this hotel!
My wife and I stayed over for two nights for our anniversary, what a beautiful place, little of the beaten track but well worth it, the food, the staff, the rooms were out of this world and then the view - wow. The view was so nice we never closed the curtains at all. Put this place on your to do list, the seafood and the view make it all worthwhile finding. rd3audi
A wonderful retreat from city life
Another wonderful stay at this comfortable, friendly hotel. A lovely welcome combined with excellent food, fantastic rooms and professional service made this second visit to the Pierhouse a really pleasurable experience. Fantastic new beds, high standards of service and cleanliness. Delicious seafood. JS, Feb 15
Fantastic escape to a stunning location.
2 nights to celebrate a "special" in a superior sea view room. Excellent location, very cosy during a cold, snowy spell. Impressed with their commitment to sourcing local produce as much as possible. EC, Feb 15
Lovely little hotel in a beautiful location
The bed was the most comfortable ever, absolute bliss with a big fluffy duvet and wonderful pillows, peace and quiet and the sound of the gentle lap of waves from outside the window. travellingteapot
The Pierhouse is a secret gem
Don't tell anyone about it, as everyone will want to stay there! Faultless. Superb fresh Scottish food. Fabulous hosts. Comfortable rooms and one of the best scenic views in Scotland on the doorstep. MP, Jan 15
Relaxing break, amazing food, friendly staff, stunning views, wonderful service. GM, Jan 15
I am so glad I found The Pierhouse
... little did we know what delightful treats our tastebuds had in store! I can say hands down they had the best mussels in Scotland! I am still comparing them to all others and none have come up trumps to these! Divine! The room was very tasteful with a beautiful bathroom. And the loch views are just to die for. I wouldn't hesitate to go back. If you get the chance you must go here! You won't regret it! Susan K
Hidden treasure on our doorstep
From the moment we arrived to when we reluctantly had to check out, the staff were so nice & friendly, making us feel right at home. Our room was perfect - very generously sized, the most comfy bed I think I've ever slept in, food was excellent & all complemented by the beautiful location. RC, Nov 14
Officially our favourite place...ever!
Just an amazing place! Sums up everything that Scotland is/should be about... And does it well (which is actually quite a rare thing!) The location is just incredible! Lovely bar with woodburner & great seafood/venison for dinner in the restaurant! This has become a firm favourite & we will most definitely be back... Very soon! Glass of wine... On the pier... As the sun sets... Heaven! JJ, Nov 14
The view is worth every penny
Most enjoyable. Location, location, location, food, food, food. ML, Oct 14
Breath of fresh air
Calm and confident accommodation, excellent food. Liked being so close to the sea and feeling a part of the land and seascape plus being able to have a dog with us. CW, Sept 14
A real gem that provided a truly special and relaxing experience
Everything from check in to check out was done with ease and efficiency. The comfort of the room was outstanding and the intimate feel of The Pierhouse was a treat. The quality of the food was superb, our seafood platter for dinner was awesome. OR, Aug 14
The best seafood in Scotland
Still one of the best small hotels in the best little country in the world. Amazing scenery, fantastic food. AR, May 14
Heaven, below the clouds
Thank you all for an enjoyable stay. Warm, attentive staff, views galore and, of course, the food. Megan & Tony, March 14
The weather was wild, but it gave us the perfect excuse to camp out by the fire. Amazing food and extremely welcoming and friendly staff. The perfect weekend retreat to unwind and indulge in some of Scotland's finest seafood. Gillian & Simon, Feb 14
