A summer round-up
When Mark from Goondiwindi in Australia came to stay with us in May he had not expected to visit The Pierhouse's local supplier of fine oysters - thank you to Hugo of Caledonian Oysters who kindly shucked and gave Mark a massive 8 year old oyster natural to eat! Not for the faint-hearted!!
The latest local Malt to be stocked in our Ferry Bar - Oban - The Distillers Edition - Distilled 1999, bottled 2014. The Pierhouse Malt Collection is now up to 100......come & try a nip!
On a hot, sunny Sunday in June, Nick completed the 140 km Isle of Mull Cyclosportive in 6 hrs and 35 minutes coming in 77th out of 161 riders. New bike certainly performed well and helped Nick continue to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
We do love it when beautiful cars visit the hotel - a wonderful vintage Aston Martin called by in June.
Wild About Argyll
Cyclist and adventurer Mark Beaumont passed through Port Appin as part of his tour of Argyll. Mark jumped on Alistair from Appin Boat Tours' boat for a quick jaunt to Lismore - cycling along the island to the Broch.
Arrive by Helicopter
We were delighted to welcome a party of American visitors for lunch at The Pierhouse in July. The group who were travelling with Plews Tours arrived by helicopter which landed in Port Appin's playing field. After a seafood lunch and a stretch of the legs along the pier, the chaps continued their journey to Turnberry.
A highlight of The Lismore Agricultural Show in July were the stands selling prosecco & rhubarb cordial and Lismore Oysters with a variety of additions - tequila, sliced sushi ginger, tabasco, Cointreau. Norma (from The Pierhouse's accounts dept) won the Best Strawberry Jam award and was also very proud to have won the Best Baby Knitted Outfit.
August's Appin Show was a day full of fine beasts, prize winners, live pipe and accordeon music with the day finishing with an Orcadian Strip the Willow. (images courtesy of both Lismore's and Appin's Agricultural Shows Facebook pages. )
Fresh catch for supper
The perfect advert for Emma Bridgewater plates - mackerel supper at home caught off the end of our pier (see gallery below).
We've been very privileged to watch the greatest show on earth throughout the summer months - the stunningly beautiful sunsets across Loch Linnhe from The Pierhouse.
