Bianca is at home in Romania, looking after Baby Romi, who is now 7 months old, whilst Romi is back with us to run the restaurant, along with Mat, from Czech Republic. We are delighted to have them back.
Nick and I always encourage young people who are interested in hospitality to work with us over the summer months to gain work experience. Alex Parkinson, who worked with us last summer for 4 months, left us to work in a Michelin star restaurant in Herefordshire and is now in Barcelona on a bar tending course!
You usually meet one or more of our children helping out in the summer – Robert, our son is busy training for the Marathon, and was spotted running along Lismore on Good Friday, with Nick behind him on a bike, giving him ‘good advice’!. He is running for the same charity that Nick did in 2006, the Scientific Exploration Society, which specialises in scientific research and humanitarian aid projects in remote areas of the world. We will be heading down to support him.
Our daughter, Georgie is busy revising for school exams in May, and looking forward to joining the restaurant team in July.
Eilidh, is back from Glasgow University for a month and is busy helping us in the bar and the restaurant, and we are looking forward to her joining us this summer too.
We have really enjoyed having our head chef’s son, Cameron, on the team. You will often see him on the breakfast shifts with me, but sadly he leaves us in May to continue his studies on Skye. His successful application to go on Raleigh International will take him to Costa Rica next summer – so we will keep you posted as to how he gets on.
We welcome Lorraine’s daughter, Lauren to the team, who will help us out at the weekends, serving teas, coffees, scones and cakes. Lauren will take her Barista training test with our coffee supplier Brodies in May.
Our wonderful housekeeping team has been joined by Laura, who has worked on the cruise ships for many years and is enjoying just watching the sea from afar for a change.
Caroline is as busy as ever in reservations, and has been joined by Harry who you may well have met working behind the bar. Caroline is a fountain of knowledge on local activities and is always happy to assist you to plan your day - usually it will entail a trip across to Lismore!
We have a great team in the kitchen headed by Laura who has been very busy putting together our new summer menu. Laura loves this time of year and can’t wait for you all to try our new seasonal dishes.
Norma who does the Pierhouse accounts live on a croft on Lismore and is very busy lambing at the moment, which seems to be full-on right now. We are hoping for some lovely photos soon of their latest lambs.
Lorraine and Rita are renowned for their warm welcome when you enter the Ferry bar. They have been very busy over the winter trying hard to keep up with all the new whiskies and Scottish gins Nick keeps introducing to the bar.
Archie from Iceland, took over from Geoff behind the bar in the evenings, last September. He has a new day job and has just taken over the Port Appin Craft shop next to the village shop, so next time you are here, do pop in and say hello.
