Nick's Cycle Challenge

The Pierhouse's Nick Horne, who completed last weekend's 87 mile sponsored cycle ride around Mull in 22 degree heat, shares his story and his heart-felt thanks to everyone who sponsored him - if you would like to sponsor Nick please visit his Just Giving page.

To all you very generous people.

Thank you so much for sponsoring me this last weekend for the Mull Cyclosportive in aid of Help for Heroes.

I am delighted to report that this year I cycled as one of a trio of ex members of the Royal Tank Regiment and successfully made it around the 87 mile mountainous circuit of the Isle of Mull, as a team, in just over 8 hours. In spite of 22 degree heat (not quite Afghanistan temperatures but extremely hot by Scottish standards), punctures and various minor mechanical issues we started and finished as a team in true Tankie spirit. I can further report from the finish that the first pint of beer hardly touched the sides but that subsequent refreshments were consumed at a slightly more leisurely pace to mark our more senior years!

I would like to thank all those people who have so kindly sponsored me on this gruelling challenge and to say that the total raised for Help for Heroes has now surpassed the target figure of £3000 which I set 3 years ago before the first time I took part, which is simply brilliant. I am so pleased and truly grateful for your very generous support.

With best wishes
