Loch Etive extends for 18 miles from Connel where the loch flows into the Firth of Lorn at the impressive Falls of Lora up to the mountains at Glen Etive towards Glen Coe. The cruise run by Donald Kennedy is on board 'Mara' which leaves from Kelly's Pier in Taynuilt (about a 40 minute drive from The Pierhouse.) Once on the water the upper reaches of Loch Etive offer dramatic scenery with the hills rising steeply from the loch shores - the result of glacier carving during the last ice age. Mara pauses close to a seal colony and there are views of the snow capped mountains, steep glens, isolated farms, waterfalls along with the possibility of seeing Golden and Sea Eagles.
Thanks to Donald for the atmospheric photo of Loch Etive - cruises can be booked with Loch Etive Cruises on 01866 822430 or ask Caroline at Reception.
