The charity, set up in the name of 'the voice of rugby' and run by members of Bill's family, aims to continue to develop and promote the game of rugby union and its values. Funds raised help to encourage and support youngsters to develop life skills and values through grassroots sports. The Pierhouse recently donated a prize for a stay/meal at the hotel in a silent auction at the Foundation's Long Lunch event with Michael Lynagh and Nick Farr-Jones (in association with Edinburgh Accies) held in Edinburgh.
The connection? Bill McLaren's grand-daughter, Lindsay, who works for the Foundation was looking for fundraising prizes. As Lindsay had enjoyed a recent stay at The Pierhouse, it seemed the perfect match to ask Nick & Nikki if they would support the silent auction. As Lindsay told us "We were absolutely delighted to have sold your wonderful Pierhouse prize at our Long Lunch last week. There were 5 amazing bids and despite us stating very clearly on the silent auction paperwork that the voucher was worth £250 towards the stay, the highest bid was for £347! There was lots of interest and we were delighted to have promoted your stunning hotel at our event which had over 480 guests. We are so incredibly grateful for your support and generosity towards the Bill McLaren Foundation, thank you so much again."
We're looking forward to welcoming the generous 'silent bidder' to the hotel....and to Lindsay of course when she (hopefully) visits us again.
