Dye Your Own Silk Scarf
Tuesday, 5 November 2019 - 10.30am
A 3 hour hands-on workshop with textile artist Midge Gourlay to dye your own silk scarf using the Japanese Shibori technique to pattern the fabric with indigo dye.
Midge Gourlay is a local resident of Port Appin who specialises in embroidered textiles. Trained at the Glasgow School of Art, Midge’s work - which is inspired by Celtic mythology and the West Highland sea and landscapes - has been exhibited widely throughout the UK and abroad.
The workshop is a unique opportunity to work with Midge and runs for approximately 3 hours.
Workshop cost is £40 per person. (You need to bring your own apron and rubber gloves!)

As the nights draw in what could be better than a warm welcome, a glass of wine in hand, an evening of food and convivial conversation ahead of you?
We invite you to join us for the inaugural Pierhouse Wine Dinner, a delicious four course menu and a glass of wine matched with each dish. Victoria Beckett from Alexander Wines will be hosting the night – opening a selection of favourites and some less familiar wines from the Pierhouse wine list.

The Pierhouse Art Club

Are you a budding amateur watercolour artist who would like to improve your technique? Or are you someone who would like to be a budding amateur artist but has no idea where to start?!
We are offering you the opportunity to spend some tuition time with well known local artist Andy Greatrix. We have three sessions to whet your appetite, or to fine tune your skills working with watercolour paints - 12th & 26th November and 10th December, all at 9.30am for a couple of hours.

Beginners Guide to Brush Pen Calligraphy

Whether you're a lettering newbie or you've tried your hand at calligraphy before and ended up in a big inky mess (we’ve all been there), this is the course for you. Learn about the basic strokes that help you to form letters and develop your skills so you can create beautiful lettering too!
This three-hour course - being offered by Toasty Type (or Jen to her pals!) from Glasgow - is perfect for beginners and offers a true introduction to the practice of modern calligraphy. You will receive all the help and guidance you need along with professional demonstrations to help guide you through the workshop. This course will provide you with the skills, techniques, and tools you need to continue your practice at home.

Make Your Own Boozy Lamp and Shade
Wednesday, 20 November 2019 - 10.30am
This increasingly popular workshop is hosted by Jennifer McGlone from Glasgow’s Braw Wee Emporium. It is the chance to spend an entertaining 3 hours or so making your very own lamp and shade.
Perfect for beginners, you will be taken through the process step by step, and at the end of it you’ll have your own unique lamp and shade to take home with you. Bring along your favourite gin bottle (empty!!) and choice of fabric.

Oban Distillery Whisky Tasting
Friday, 6 December - 7pm
We have teamed up with Oban Distillery - one of Scotland’s oldest sources of single malt whisky - to bring you an evening of whisky tasting on December 6th here at the hotel. You will be expertly guided through the tasting of four Oban whiskies by Jim Rae from the distillery, and receive an Oban whisky glass as a memento.
