Outdoor Adventures & Activities

To enable guests to make the most of their stay at The Pierhouse, from May 2008 to the end of September 2008, the following activities will be available. These can all be arranged by The Pierhouse for guests as required. If you have a particular request, please do not hesitate to ask.  Prices available from The Pierhouse Hotel Reservations.

SAILING & WINDSURFING – Sailing & windsurfing from a sheltered local bay onto Loch Linnhe.  For more advanced sailors, explore the beautiful islands, castles and deserted bays around Lismore and Shuna or head up towards Mull.  

MOTOR BOAT TRIPS  – Motor boat trips from a safe, sheltered bay on Loch Linnhe and the Lynn of Lorn. Trips to the islands of Luing, Seil and Easedale.  For the more advanced, enjoy the freedom of the loch with castles, prehistoric sites, secluded bays and islands.  Children are welcome.  Small windsurf rigs, wetsuits, fishing tackle for hire and instruction available.  Choice of rowing boats, 16ft motor launches, Drascombe Sailing Lugger, Wayfarer Sailing Dinghy, or Windsurfer Board and/or lessons.

SEA FISHING TRIPS – Reel in your own catch of the day on Loch Linnhe and the Sound of Mull on a private chartered clinker built fishing boat.  Licenced to carry 12 passengers with a skippered charter, fishing includes Skate, Dogfish, Whiting and Thornback Rays.  A very popular day out so please ensure you book early.

FAMILY MACKERAL  FISHING TRIPS – Enjoy a Fun Family Mackeral Fishing on a 2 hour evening trip on beautiful Loch Etive.  Great entertainment with stunning scenery.

GENERAL OR SKATE  FISHING TRIPS – A full 8 hour day trip expedition, starting from either Oban (for fishing in Loch Linnhe) or Taynuilt Pier (for fishing in Loch Etive).  A maximum of 8-12 people depending on your choice of fishing.  General fishing for catches of Pollock, luing, dogfish, rays, conger eels, mackeral and coal fish, or skate fishing expedition in a 35 foot offshore 105.  Both trips are open for group bookings only so please be aware that boats are not available for private charter. 

FLY FISHING PERMIT / LESSONS This superb fly-fishing centre with four stocked lochs and two miles of Salmon River is quite unique.  The lochs are stocked daily with prime hard fighting fish to give a good days sport for everyone. The mile and a half of water on the River Awe provides some excellent, if not challenging, Salmon and Sea Trout fishing.  In addition Inverawe can also boast a comprehensive Angling School where beginners and intermediate fishers are catered for.  You can learn the wonderful art of fly-fishing from scratch or use our instructors to brush up on your technique if you are feeling a little rusty.  Rod and Net hire is available on site.  Further information from http://www.smokedsalmon.co.uk/publish.asp?what=info_fisheries&page=1

SEA KAYAKING ADVENTURES Launch off the beach at The Pierhouse and paddle the exciting waters of Loch Linnhe.  Tailor-made guided half or full day expeditions led by a fully qualified local guide. No experience required, all equipment provided.  Breathtaking locations, amazing scenery and wildlife experienced in its natural environment together with the freedom of sea kayaking.  Ideal for solo and/or family outings.  Further information from www.rockhopperscotland.co.uk.

VERTICAL DESCENTS - The ultimate adventure for every extremist.  Group or solo trips offer a choice of canyoning - jumping, sliding, abseiling off waterfalls, swimming through pools - or funyaking - a unique and exciting way of discovering Scotland's rivers, paddling down Class 3 rapids.  No experience required, tuition provided and suitable for all age groups.  All activities take 2-4 hours and head to toe thermal neoprene suits and specialist canyoning equipment provided.

PONY TREKKING HACKS / LESSONS Beach rides or longer hacks for more experienced riders. Stunning outings to Castle Stalker beach or the woodlands and forests around the Appin area.  This is a beautiful environment for outdoor hacks, for all levels of ability from beginners to advanced.  Lessons are also available.

HILL WALKING & CAMERA STALKING -
In the heart of the stunning Kingairloch private estate and with the help of a professional Estate Stalker, attempt to get as close as possible to wild deer and a breathtaking array of spectacular local wildlife for photography and observation.  The estate offers Otters, Seals, Ospreys, Golden and Sea Eagles, Kestrels or Sparrow Hawks in their natural habitats from Spring until the end of August.  This is a stunning, incredibly beautiful outdoor activity in one of Scotland's most exclusive and beautiful locations

MOUNTAIN BIKING TRIPS Explore the stunning surrounding mainland or visit the island of Lismore using our Pierhouse all-terrain mountain bikes.

PICNICS  Enjoy a Pierhouse picnic box for lunch or dinner in the beautiful countryside in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.

LOCAL TREKKING Trekking with a qualified guide for an easy or major trek, around Port Appin or up Ben Nevis.

SEA.FARI ADVENTURE EXPEDITIONS - enjoy a unique combination of high adventure, pure exhileration and the thrill of close encounters with Scotland's magnificent sealife and coastal scenery starting from Easdale Harbour, Seil Island.  Trips on a high speed all weather 300hp turbocharged RIBs take you to large colonies of seals, seabirds including Guillemots, Kittewakes, Shags, Golden and Sea Eagles, as well as regular sitings of porpoises, dolphins and occasional Minke Whale.  Trips include Group Bookings or Private Charter.

SEALIFE BOAT TRIPS & ADVENTURES - The Firth of Lorn Special Area of Conservation offers outstanding natural beauty , uninhabited islands, dramatic sea cliffs and rich feeding grounds for whales, dolphins, porpoises as well as excellent sightings of seals, otters, deer, wild goats, eagles, buzzards and falcons.  Starting from Balvicar, Isle of Seil, a 900hp Porpoise II charter day boat, trips include a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve, a National Scenic Area and a Special Area of Conservation.  Sealife Adventures works closely with The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust.
