Environment
We are delighted to have joined the Green Tourism Business Scheme and have achieved a Silver Award. We are now determined to do even better and are striving to gain the Gold level. It is understandable that many visitors to The Pierhouse, in particular, Argyll and Scotland in general value the unspoiled landscape, community living, clean air and unpolluted wildness that surround us. Our policy towards a constant improvement and awareness of the importance of this is given as follows (carbon neutral tourism).
Green Tourism policy statement of The Pierhouse
We acknowledge and consider it essential to monitor our performance in all areas that affect our health, habitat and lifestyle. The Pierhouse operates a policy of continuous improvement and development towards reducing the impact on the environment.
To this end we aim to be recognised as a leading representative of good practice in Green Tourism for the benefit of our hotel, staff, the community and our unique and fragile landscape, which, in itself, is vital to our business.
Waste reduction - We recycle as much rubbish waste as possible - glass, paper and printer ink cartridges - in our on-site recycling bins.
Fuel impact - We are committed to using local suppliers and seasonal ingredients wherever possible to reduce the impact of unnecessary long-haul distribution.
Energy efficiency - We use low energy efficiency lightbulbs in house.
Training - We have a committee dedicated to generating ideas on reducing our carbon impact.
Guest involvement - We invite all guests to contribute to our policy during their stay by reusing towels in their bathrooms wherever possible for stays of more than one night.
